TFS 2012 Power Tools now available

The Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2012 Power Tools are now downloadable from the Microsoft web site. While there are not many completely new tools in this first RTM release for 2012, all of the tools appear to work equally well with either on-premise or TFS Preview. The focus has clearly been to get these working in the 2012 ecosystem rather than focus on too many new things for this release. Our old favourites have been polished and enhanced for the 2012 release including; Best Practices Analyzer (Invaluable for checking your TFS server is nice and healthy) Process...

With the recent release of the October Power tools for TFS 2008, many people will need to deploy these to multiple machines. The easiest way is to use an unattended install that you can kick off from the command line. BEFORE YOU BEGIN If you include the Windows Shell Extensions, you will be required to reboot after installing the Power Tools before the Shell Extensions will be available Both the BPA & TFPS switches below, require Powershell to be installed first. PREVIOUS POWERTOOL INSTALLS The October release should update all prior TFS 2008 releases – Dec ’07, Mar ’08, Jul ’08.  Users should not have...

The much anticipated Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Foundation Server Power Tools - October 2008 Release is finally available for download. Before you say anything, yes it is November, but believe me it is worth the extra wait! You may remember Brian first publicly mentioned what was in store for us in this Power Tool release back on the 1st October in his comprehensive blog post. Soon thereafter they were released to the Team System MVP community for feedback and let's just say we threw everything at them and found some things that needed to be fixed. You can...

Upcoming October Power Tools release – OMG!

I was just reading Brian Harry's teaser blog post about what's coming up with the October Power Tools release and I've got to say that I'm impressed. As per Brian's blog post they are looking at the following three major features; Team Members - We've added a new node to the Team Explorer called "Team Members".  It appears under each Team Project and is used to identify who are the people who work on the project.  It serves as a "pivot point" for information about and operations on people and teams. Windows Shell Extension - We've built a...

One of the great things that the VSTS Product Team showed us at the MVP Summit a couple of weeks ago was an overview of the things coming in TFS 2008 Service Pack 1. Work Item Web Access Power Tool – CTP Available

One of the things that Microsoft did with the release of VSTS 2008 was to relax the TFS licensing to enable a number of use scenarios. Specifically they now "allow an unlimited number of users in your company to create any work item, query for work items they have created and view or update any work item they have created all without a CAL."  Brian Harry provided the details in his blog post "TFS Licensing Change for TFS 2008" The relaxation of the CAL licensing was great news but unfortunately there was no user interface that could enforce the limitations of...
